Faith in humanity restored

Unfortunately the departure of Bashar al Asad from power is not the reason for the title. It refers to this video:

Of course faith in humanity is not quite the meaning of today’s holiday, but it will have to do for ecumenical reasons. And the Bashar al Assad part, if not true today, I hope will be true tomorrow. I also hope the sequelae will be peaceful.

Wishing you all–Christian or (like me) not–the very best for the holidays and the new year!

  1. Thank you for that!

Reminds me of a science fiction story I read when I was a kid: some Intergalactic Council is meeting to decide whether a newly discovered and generally unpleasant, aggressive race known as “humans” should simply be cleared off their planet before they do any harm beyond it. The human selected at random to argue humanity’s case desperately goes through a list of all of humanity’s greatest achievements in science, but impresses no one. And then in his desolation he summons up some piece by Bach for consolation (not Beethoven, I don’t think), it’s admitted into evidence – and we squeak by. Which seems to be humanity’s way, in any case – squeaking by, from one year to the next.
